Vietnam: National News Agency Opens New TV Channel
22 June 2010
The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) started a new TV channel on 21 June to celebrate Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. The channel is called “V-News” which says it all, just news, making it the first of its kind in Vietnam. During the test period from now until September 15 V-News, run by the country’s only newswire service, will cover domestic and international affairs, documentary films, editorial columns and multimedia events.
With almost 1,000 reporters and sub-editors across the country and 27 bureaux throughout the world, VNA is set to broadcast the latest news in all fields: political, economic, cultural and social. V-News plans to air special programmes such as “Feedback”, “Breaking News” and “Reporters’ Prism” to inform the public of incorrect content and correct fabrications, false information and schemes by hostile forces that run counter to the nation’s interests. The channel is also set to cover current socio-economic issues, share good examples and experiences, and address arising problems.
Broadcasts will be aired from 18h to 21h at 140.25 MHz through the VCTV during the test period and the broadcasting hours will be expanded in the future.
