Singapore: Deal With China To Package Media Products
9 July 2010
Singapore and China are all set to encourage cultural and media partnerships to further their global ambitions. The move is expected to push Singapore as a global media hub as well as increase the prominence of Chinese media products.
To coincide with 20 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, a concert of theme songs of popular co-produced television soaps will be hosted in Beijing in September and televised for audiences in the region. The theme songs of the hugely popular Dream Of The Red Chamber and Little Nyonya will be sung among others in the concert. Apart from concerts, documentaries and telefilms too will be co-produced by the two countries.
At present representatives from 14 Singapore-based media companies are touring China as part of a business mission led by Media Development Authority (MDA) chairman Dr Tan Chin Nam.
While Chinese media giants are eyeing increased international exposure, Singapore hopes to attract the latter in its upcoming media hub called Mediapolis. China Arts Channel, a leading Mandarin digital channel, has already set up shop in Singapore.
“Singapore, with a bilingual edge and global connection and infrastructure, hopes to help Chinese media content foray into the global platform”, says Dr Tan.
