  • DETAILS

Indymedia Japan (IMCjp) is an online news site that is operated by volunteer staff. The blog-style news site, which took off as a part of global network of Independent Media Centre (IMC), consists of news articles that are posted or linked by individuals either in English or in Japanese. While the individuals can upload their articles directly on the site without any screening or censorship, the site warns readers to equip 'media literacy skill' so that they can interpret these unscreened articles and verify the credibility by themselves. The articled are categorized into five sections (Interview, News, Commentary, Announcement, Review and Article) and 24 categories. The categories include broad topics from Health and daily life to Globalisation, Pace/War and Social movement.

Editorial volunteers review posted newswires and comments at IMCjp in accordance with editorial policy. The articles that are regarded to violate the editorial policy in a way such as deviation from regional relevancy or honour code will hide or delete. Like in the case of global IMC, the IMCjp also has a space at wiki that is collectively hosted by Indymedia Documentation Project. In the wiki, a backlog of IMCjp volunteer discussions, to-do lists, meeting records, draft policies are stored for the operation of the news site.
